What about size?

By far, the most returns we receive are because of size. I hear from my customers that the item they received is either much bigger or smaller than they perceived it to be when they were shopping online. This is one of the major drawbacks of online shopping - no matter how great the picture may be or how many details regarding the measurements are listed, we sometimes fall in love with an item and just don't understand the reality of it's size based on the image we see. I have been in the industry for nearly eight years and I still get surprised by size when I unpackage items! So, how do we fix this problem?

I doubt there is really a sure fire answer or quick fix available but there are a few tips that may save you the trouble of the return process.

  • Put things in perspective! All of the measurements are given in inches. For example, a vase is 19.75" high and 7.75" in diameter which doesn't seem so big but convert that to feet - it is over 1 1/2 feet tall and just over 1/2 foot across. the image doesn't LOOK that big but really, this is a large scale vase for a large scale space!

  • Try a mock up. It can be so hard to visualize the actual size in inches, especially when you are looking at a small image on your computer monitor. Be creative! Go out and get some card board or construction paper - cut it out in the approximate dimensions of the fixture you are considering and tack it up or have someone hold it up in the space you are wanting to use it in. This is a great way to determine if what you are interested in is right for your space or not.

  • Give us a call! We have experienced designers on staff that can help you determine the right fixture for your space with just a few details. 888-488-0885

Hopefully these time and money saving tips will work for you! Happy shopping!
